How to Mirror iPhone to TCL TV: Roku vs Google TV

Updated October 29, 20265 min read

TL;DR: Check whether your TCL runs Roku TV, Google TV, or another system, then verify the exact model's AirPlay support. If available, enable AirPlay and select the TV in iPhone Control Center > Screen Mirroring. Otherwise, a compatible Android TV receiver or HDMI can provide a full-screen connection; a Cast button sends supported media instead.

Identify Your TCL System Before Connecting

Open Settings > System > About, or its equivalent, and note the model and software version. Check that model on your regional TCL support site; the brand does not identify its receiving protocols.

TCL documents AirPlay on select Roku TVs. Its Google TV settings guide also describes AirPlay controls on supported models, with menu differences by region and software. Neither means every TCL supports AirPlay.

Set Up a TCL Roku TV for iPhone Mirroring

Use the television remote to open Settings > Apple AirPlay and HomeKit, where available, and turn AirPlay on. Leave the TV awake while making the first connection.

Do not begin with Settings > System > Screen mirroring > Always allow. That separate Roku feature handles compatible Android and Windows mirroring. Changing it will not turn an unsupported TCL into an AirPlay receiver.

If AirPlay is documented for your model but the menu is missing, install the TV's available software update and check its model-specific manual. Avoid a factory reset as a first step: it removes saved configuration without adding missing hardware or platform support.

Set Up a TCL Google TV or Android TV

If the model manual lists AirPlay, find AirPlay and HomeKit Settings and enable it. On some TCL Google TVs, those controls are under Settings > System; follow the manual when your layout differs.

If AirPlay is absent, check the TV's app store. AirMirror Receiver provides an Android TV receiving path for iPhone, iPad, and Mac on the same local Wi-Fi network. Check whether its official listing is installable on your exact TV, install it there, and keep it open. Note the receiving name it displays.

That receiver option is for compatible Android TV hardware. Do not try to apply its Google Play instructions to TCL Roku TV or another TCL platform. For the complete receiver setup, use the iPhone-to-Android-TV guide.

Start the Connection From Your iPhone

Once the receiving method is ready:

  1. Connect the iPhone and TV to the same home network.
  2. Open Control Center: swipe down from the top-right on an iPhone with Face ID, or up from the bottom on an older Home-button iPhone.
  3. Tap Screen Mirroring, then select the intended TV or receiver name.
  4. If the TV displays an AirPlay code, enter it on the iPhone.
  5. Open a local photo first to check that the connection works.

These are Apple's full-screen mirroring controls. To finish, return to Screen Mirroring > Stop Mirroring. Turn on a suitable Focus mode before sharing so personal notifications do not interrupt the group.

Choose Media Casting When You Only Need a Video

If a supported app shows a Cast button and your TCL offers Google Cast, select the TV from that app instead. On iPhone, grant the app Local Network access when needed for discovery. The TV plays the selected media rather than following every phone action.

A TV appearing in YouTube's Cast list but missing from Control Center is therefore not necessarily broken: the two lists look for different receiving methods. Use the AirPlay and casting comparison if the labels are confusing.

For subscription services, prefer their supported TV app or official casting route. AirMirror cannot bypass DRM, and switching to HDMI does not guarantee protected-video playback either.

When the Connection Does Not Behave as Expected

Keep this check specific to your chosen path. A missing AirPlay destination calls for receiver and network checks; a working Home Screen followed by one black video points toward the app or protected content. Use the black-screen guide for that second case.

With no compatible wireless path, use an HDMI adapter documented for your iPhone's actual video-output capability, then select the connected HDMI input. A USB-C port alone is not a guarantee that a phone supports external video.

TCL TV Screen Mirroring iPhone FAQ

Are TCL TVs compatible with Apple AirPlay?

Some are, depending on the model and firmware. Being able to install the Apple TV streaming app does not establish that the television can receive AirPlay; check its specifications for AirPlay separately.

How do I pair my iPhone to my smart TV?

For full-screen AirPlay, ready the compatible receiver, join the same local network, and choose it from Control Center's Screen Mirroring list. Bluetooth pairing is not the normal AirPlay setup procedure.

Why is my TCL TV not showing up for screen mirroring?

It may lack AirPlay, have its receiver disabled, or be on a network that blocks discovery. First verify the receiving method, then follow the TV-not-showing checklist instead of changing unrelated Roku settings.
